The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins added another defenseman to their roster Thursday (WBS).
Reid Cashman, 25, joins the Baby Penguins after splitting last year with two different affiliates of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He posted decent numbers in the ECHL with the Columbia Inferno. Where he really surprised was in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) playoffs, posting 12 points (3 G – 9 A) in 13 games.
Reid Cashman (D) – 6’2″, 205 pounds
2007-2008: 41 GP – 5 G – 22 A – 27 pts. – 60 PIM With the Columbia Inferno (ECHL)
2007-2008: 8 GP – 0 G – 3 A – 3 Pts. – 8 PIM With the Toronto Marlies (AHL)
He has good size for a defenseman who wants to end up in the National Hockey League. I’m honestly not sure what kind of talent he has though. Scouting reports are hard to come by for any players aren’t at least American Hockey League (AHL) regulars.
Given that he has only played 15 total games in the AHL, and has never seen time in the NHL, it’s evident he has a lot of work to do.
He did show excellent offensive ability in college at Quinnipiac University, totaling 148 points (23 G – 125 A) in 151 games.
This totally went by my radar undetected. I apologize for the late update.
