Last Night’s Scores of Importance

There were three games of concern to Penguins fans last night.  They went as follows…


Colorado 2 – Philadephia 5

The Flyers fell behind 1-0 on a power play goal by Paul Stastny.  However, the Flyers scored the next four goals to take a 4-2 lead in to the third period.  Mike Knuble (Power Play), Jeff Carter (Shorthanded), Joffrey Lupul and Mike Richards scored in the opening two periods.

Simon Gagne added the fifth Flyers goal in the theird period on the power play and Philadelphia cruised to victory.  It now sits at 17-7-6 with 40 points.


New Jersey 2 – Toronto 3

Mike Rupp scored in the first period, the only goal of the period, and the Devils took a 1-0 advantage in to the first intermission.

The second period saw much more action, started off by the Maple Leafs.  Nik Antropov and Jeremy Williams both scored to put the Leafs ahead 2-1.  The Devils answered late in the period on the power play as Zach Parise scored to tie the game at two.

That score help through the third period and overtime, which led to a shootout.  In the shootout Jason Blake score to put the Leafs ahead 2-1 in the fourth round.  Vesa Toskala then held his own as Brian Rolston missed the net to end the game.


New York 3 – Anaheim 1

Nigel Dawes scored late in the third period to put the Rangers ahead 2-1.  They would add an empty netter to go on to win 3-1.
