The Pittsburgh Penguins signed Maxime Talbot to a two year contract extension today that will keep him in Pittsburgh through the 2010-11 season.
Talbot has seven points (4 G – 3 A) this year, but has been in and out of the lineup all season with injuries. His signing insures Pens fans of at least three centers until the end of 2010-11.: Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Talbot.
Talbot has played four seasons in the NHL, all with the Penguins. In his career he has registered 65 points (34 G – 31 A) in 241 games.
The only knock on him this year, other than the injury bug, has been his plus/minus rating. He has a minus-10 thus far.
Pittsburgh made another move today as well, trading Jonathan Filewich to St. Louis for a sixth round draft pick in 2009.
He had just four points (2 G – 2 A) in 19 games in WBS. For his NHL career, Filewich played in five games and was a minus-2.
Finally, Ryan Whitney was assigned to WBS for a conditioning stint before returning to the Penguins, which could likely occur Dec. 23 against Tampa Bay at home.
