Leafs embarrass Pens 7-3

This game was so horribly played that neither myself nor Dan could manage to lift a finger and type a recap until the day after.  And even at that, it’s still hard to write about it.

Maple Leafs 7 – Penguins 3

Therefore, we’ll let the players do so.  All we’re doing is posting quotes from after last night’s game.

So here they are.  I think what is here writes itself:

“Every one of us right now is pretty embarrassed,” defenseman Mark Eaton said. “To have a game like that, especially on home ice … just to get beat all over the ice, it’s pretty embarrassing.”

“I needed to make some saves, to keep the guys in the game, and I didn’t,” goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury said.

“They came out hard,” center Sidney Crosby said. “We just had no response at all.”

“There was talk, but talk is cheap,” left winger Matt Cooke said. “You’ve got to go out there and prove it in your actions. You can say whatever you want in the dressing room. Each guy … has to take responsibility for what happened out there.”

“[Fleury] was not good, like the rest,” Therrien said. “It’s not about Marc-Andre. Everyone. Not one guy. Not 10 guys. Everyone.”

“It’s a bad game by everyone involved,” Penguins coach Michel Therrien said.

“There’s nothing good to say,” Crosby said. “There’s nothing good to come out of this except we can only go up from here. Hopefully it makes us realize we can’t get away with not working hard.

“Frankly, from my standpoint, this can’t happen again,” Penguins forward Matt Cooke said.
