The Pittsburgh Penguins announced this morning that Jordan Staal has signed a four year contract that will keep him a Penguin through the 2012-2013 season.
Talk about a core in tact.
The new contract goes in to effect at the start of the 2009-10 season. So far this season Staal has accumulated 21 points (11 G – 10 A) in 41 games. For his career he has 91 points in 204 games.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have locked up Jordan Staal with a four-year, $16 million contract extension.
His signing will put to rest any/all of the rumors surrounding his name. Many believed he was going to be too expensive to sign and would serve as bait at the trade deadline. Such is not the case anymore.
He is seemingly the final link of the ‘core’ group the of young Penguins to be signed for the long term. The other players include Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Brooks Orpik, Ryan Whitney and Marc-Andre Fleury.
^He’s got that kind of skill
