This will fire you up

Well this whole post was going to start with Pens news.  I even had an introduction typed out outlining why I decided to start with the Pens rather than the feeble-minded bloggers and news correspondents of Detroit.

Then I brought up the A2Y page over at KK.  It lit my fire and, if you’re a Pens fan, it will surely light yours.  Once again, Detroit fans feel like they’re ‘God’s gift to hockey.’

Here’s a taste.  Click read more for the rest.

“Here’s what I think about tomorrow: the Wings are going to be pissed off.  And that’s what should be frightening all the 4-year Pen fans.  Detroit’s going to be pissed because the Wings are hearing the rumblings and reading the stories.  They know the Pens are being favored in a lot of circles, by a lot of “experts.” The Wings know they’re being discounted and that doesn’t sit well.  They couldn’t care less about being “disrespected”, a “verb” invented by the NBA.  But it irritates them and I dig that.

“And guess what else bitches?  The Wings, to a man, know what’s going on with Gary and the league.  They’re talking about it and asking this question:  Would Gary Bettman have started the Finals on Saturday if his Baby Boy was nursing a sore foot?

“Fu** no he wouldn’t have. Not when he could have delayed it two or three days.

“Paranoid? Conspiracy theory driven?  Nope.  Realistic.

“Elitist and arrogant? You’re damn right I am.  I’m a Wing fan motherfu**ers. My team has granted me the right to be arrogant.

“What has your team granted you Pens fans?  Pride in two straight Eastern Conference titles.  And that’s nice.

“Be happy with it.  Revel in it.  Suck on it.  Because that’s all you’re getting.

“This ain’t the Flyers.  Osgood’s not a rookie goaltender who freezes as the series goes on.  Detroit’s not an anemic Canes team and Mike Babcock’s no Paul Maurice.”

Ok.  First off, these are more desperate cries from a fan knowing that his team is in trouble.

Let’s break it down bit by bit.

Here’s what I think about tomorrow: the Wings are going to be pissed off.  And that’s what should be frightening all the 4-year Pen fans. Detroit’s going to be pissed because the Wings are hearing the rumblings and reading the stories.

4-year Pen(s) fans?  It’s easy to trash a franchise that was forced to rebuild under extreme financial circumstances.  However, the Civic/Mellon Arena was pretty full all throughout the 90’s and in to the beginning of the 2000’s (is that what we call it?).

And wait a minute.  Is this one of the fans of a team that can’t sell out it’s own building for the Stanley Cup Finals?  The same franchise that recently asked the Penguins to sell tickets to its own arena just to fill seats?

It is.  And Pittsburghers ate up those extra tickets in roughly 45 minutes.  That was after the 1,000 or so for games 3 & 4 sold out in 10 minutes.

Hmmm.  Moving on …

They know the Pens are being favored in a lot of circles, by a lot of “experts.” The Wings know they’re being discounted and that doesn’t sit well.  They couldn’t care less about being “disrespected”, a “verb” invented by the NBA.  But it irritates them and I dig that.”

For the most part, I’m hearing Wings win.  At least from the national media.  We all know the national guys know a little about each team rather than alot about a few teams, like our local announcers do.

But go ahead.  Play the underdog card if that gets you going, even though you have home-ice advantage and the experience of several Cup wins.

And guess what else bitches?  The Wings, to a man, know what’s going on with Gary and the league.  They’re talking about it and asking this question:  Would Gary Bettman have started the Finals on Saturday if his Baby Boy was nursing a sore foot? Fu** no he wouldn’t have. Not when he could have delayed it two or three days.

Paranoid? Conspiracy theory driven?  Nope.  Realistic.

Give me a break.  I’m so sick and tired of everyone complaining about Sidney Crosby.  They complain about him complaining, but don’t notice that the complaining they are doing is far worse than any complaining Crosby shows on the ice.

Suck it up and play hockey.  Crosby had a broken foot for the final part of the 2006-07 season and into the playoffs.  Bettman didn’t tell the refs to fix games for him and sure didn’t allow him time to get better.

But we should allow the Wings and Pavel Dat-suck that.  Yep.  That makes all the sense in the world.

The schedule was changed to avoid a 9-day layoff and diminished interest in the least popular of the ‘Big-4’ professional leagues in the U.S. (totally Bettman’s fault, I’ll give people that).

You’re not realistic A2Y … you’re scared.

Elitist and arrogant? You’re damn right I am.  I’m a Wing fan motherfu**ers. My team has granted me the right to be arrogant.

What has your team granted you Pens fans?  Pride in two straight Eastern Conference titles.  And that’s nice.

Be happy with it.  Revel in it.  Suck on it.  Because that’s all you’re getting.

This ain’t the Flyers.  Osgood’s not a rookie goaltender who freezes as the series goes on.  Detroit’s not an anemic Canes team and Mike Babcock’s no Paul Maurice.”

Ok, you’re right.  The Pens haven’t played a team like Detroit yet in the postseason.  However, I wouldn’t say that the Wings have been tested any more than the Pens.

But the Pens just torched the best goalie in the playoffs in four straight games.

Anaheim was the only team that had any depth against the Wings.  Look how that worked out … seven games.  There’s no doubt that Pittsburgh is a more gifted team than the Ducks.

Chicago and Columbus were jokes.

I’m sure we all have opinions on this.  Voice them below.  There’s not much else to be said, other than what would have been my intro had I not come across that tidbit.  Here it is … or should I say was?

I’m growing tired of the same old crap coming from Detroit fans/news.  So, I’m leading with Pens news.

But don’t fret.  There will be much to read about concerning the Wings, coming straight from the ugliest city in America, in a bit.

Below the jump … an interesting link between Mark Eaton and Sidney Crosby, Dan Bylsma and more coaching links, Max Talbot on Marian Hossa and the Pens NOT whining.

From the Detroit contingent … a column actually worth reading, ignorance from the Detroit Free Press and the state of the economy helping Pens fans.

And here it is … I’ll make it short since that was so long.

Sidney Crosby got an offer to play college hockey at Notre Dame, which he apparently strongly considered.  If he would have taken it, he would have been a teammate to Mark Eaton.

Imagine that team.  Sheesh.

We know that Dan Bylsma has connections to Detroit coach Mike Babcock.  Turns out Bylsma took notes from Babcock, along with a bunch of other interesting coaches.

Hopefully it will all pay off.  Heck, those guys surely can’t hurt.

Maxime Talbot was one of the only Penguins to voice his displeasure about Marian Hossa’s departure publicly back when it happened.  Apparently he’s back at it again.  He said this the other day on a radio show in Montreal (in French) …

“There’s nothing I’d like more than to be able to shake Marian’s hand at the end of this series, look him in the eye and say, ‘You chose the wrong team.’”

We’d all like that too, Max.  Get it done.

Lastly, the Pens like playing sooner, because it makes sense.  No one wants to wait 9 days to play.

On to Detroit coverage.  This piece was actually refreshing.  It references the schedule without crying about lack of time.

It does, however, trash the league’s management.  I think we all like that.

Ignorance right here.  By paying attention at the deadline and reading something outside the Detroit area, this writer would have noticed that this statement is wrong …

“And that midseason trade matters because when the Penguins acquired Hossa, they shipped Colby Armstrong and Erik Christensen to Atlanta — and nobody in Pittsburgh felt bad for Armstrong and Christensen.”

Well that’s wrong.  There was a large contigent of Pens fans that didn’t want to see fan-favorite Colby Armstrong leave.  He appeared just days later in a Thrashers uniform and was greeted with signs and cheers.

The rest of the piece is more about Hossa blah, blah and blah.

Read this nugget:

“Sometimes emotion gets the best of us and we ignore the obvious. The Wings were better than the Penguins last year. And then the Pens lost Marian Hossa … to the Red Wings. (And they lost Ryan Malone, too). So how is it possible that the Pens are now the better team? A lot has been made of the additions that Pittsburgh made at the trade deadline (Chris Kunitz, Bill Guerin, Craig Adams) and they have been significant in getting the Pens back to this point. But have they pushed them past the Red Wings? I don’t see how.”

I’ve been waiting for this.  I like the confidence.  They’ll show you soon enough my friend.

Soon enough.

Finally, Joe Louis Arena is going to be overrun with Pittsburgh fans.  Wah wah economy wah wah.

Remember the Verizon Center before the Caps owner started scanning zip codes?  Yea, bliss.

Expect something like that.

The dumbass comments of A2Y remind me of a confrontation I had last year in the Final.
There was some redneck from Detroit driving some riceburner turned into an extremely tacky Detroit Limo. They briefly parked the P.O.S. on the curb down by the marquee and a bunch of us outdoor screen people made every effort to heckle the absolute crap out of these people.
Well, it got to the point where I said “We’ll be drinking Iron City Beer out of the Cup this year.” At this, the man started charging after me but thought better as he got closer to me and saw that some of Pittsburgh’s Finest police officers were making their way over to the charging Detroit fan.
They got back into their “Limo” and drove off. They circled a bunch more times but never stopped again. I suppose it was “F**kin’ Chryzler plant, here I come!” for them. Oh wait, wasn’t that shut down too?
