Lost in the shuffle — Chris Lee

So many signings go unnoticed with the craziness of free agency.  Such was the case for us and the signing of Chris Lee.

Around the same time Chris Conner was signed to Wilkes-Barre, so was Lee.  Lee, 28, has yet to play a game in the National Hockey League.  His situation in joining the Penguins is similar to Conner’s, with his chances of seeing time in the NHL soon being slim.

Lee earned $500,000 as a player for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL — affiliate of the New York Islanders.  The terms of his contract are unknown, but likely resemble that number.  He is 6-0, 185 pounds and is a left-handed shooter.

His last two years in the AHL have been consistent, but nowhere near consistent enough to earn a chance in the NHL.

Playing for the Iowa Stars in the AHL in 2007-08 he notched 7 goals and 21 assists in 68 games.  In Bridgeport he scored 6 goals and 24 assists in 66 games.  His career stats are as follows …

                                            --- Regular Season --- ---- Playoffs ----

Again, don’t plan on seeing him in Pittsburgh anytime soon, except for rookie/prospect camp possibly.  Be happy, though, that steps are being made to add depth in the minors as well as in Pittsburgh.

The Baby Pens have been picked dry in many areas.
